Entry 5, Year 16XX

Continuing our studies we were able to define specific characteristics of the ones who hit a stage closer to us. They are rather fragile beings, an inbetween of what we are aiming for to populate our society. We decided to name them Smokers.

For better understanding of the following documentation, here are some words that are important to know. Some of them will be described in further details considering their importance.



Glossary



Blood Purity

Purity of Shadows contained in blood of all beings. Before defined as the Maleficent Coefficient due to its correlation to Sadism and Criminality within an individual, the name was changed though due to political reasons and the bad connotation to it. Nowadays the new term makes more sense since recent cases have revealed that test subjects are not inherently bloodthirsty.


Sadism

Sadism is commonly defined as the pleasure of inflicting pain to another. What we define as Sadism with Smokers is that as well, but includes the satisfaction of personal gain. In that case, an individual can be considered as a sadist when committing crimes without empathy towards their victims for a personal goal which will leave them pleased.


Activated Citizen

Humans with a small Blood Purity Percentage who began to develop supernatural abilities.


Smokers

First Stage of Shifting. An inbetween stage still highly connected to humanity but in close contact with Shadows. Physiological and Behavioral patterns tend to change at this stage as they connect further with the darkness within their blood. This is a study detailing them.

Passive Abilities

Also known as Shadow Abilities, Passive Abilities are directly connected to darkness. They are all equal to all Smokers, only varying to the degree of talent of the individual practicing them. Passive Abilities are: Energy Collecting, Shadow Limbs, Shadow Blink and Dark Shift.

Active Abilities

These are abilities that seem to be aligned with the core and personality of the individual. Abilities of supportive and attacking kind have been revealed as well as different degrees of strength.

Dark Shift

Dark Shifts are what mostly puts Smokers and humans apart. Being able to let darkness take over and become one with the human body is the first big step in our experimentation. It’s a strong primitive form still, and our perception on this development is that they are closer to infant Shadow Beings than mature ones. Can evoke protective instincts in Purebreeds they are close to.


Collection

Made out collectibles obtained through a kill. Collectibles are human pieces that individuals with high Blood Purity feel a pull to due to their Energy which keep Shadow Beings alive and well. Collections are instinctively built and kept. Smokers tend to high production of collectibles so their collections grow very fast before stabilizing.

DRE

Acronym for Death Roll Event. Smokers become more powerful and gain more control over death and life situations with humans. When they dislike someone it is common for them to seek the person and challenge them.



Shifting



It has been noted that the shift from Activated Citizen to Smoker is very minimally perceived. The individual can pass several days without even knowing they have shifted but often it becomes visible to others due to the red pigmentation of the iris.

It was first believed that the change would happen when the Dark Shift presented itself but all the signs of Smokerdom appear even its manifestation and so the red eye color has always shown itself to be the main visible sign to the newly formed Smoker.


Anatomical Details



Despite all of the further commented below points having their uniqueness they tend to present themselves with a good amount of similarities. Smokers are reflections of Darkness and the nature they connect to. The following does not consider exceptions.

Eyes

Bright red are the most commonly found shade. They present a faint glow which can be seen in absence of light. The spectrum of shades of a Smoker’s eye though varies from faint pale red (Original human colors are light) to deep maroon (Original human colors are dark)

Claws (Limbs)

It appears that claws tend to have a correlation to body structure. Observations show that slender people tend to have long sharp spindly talons while muscular and studier ones have thicker shorter claws. Exceptions have been found.

Textures that present themselves at this stage are the same observed in a Smoker’s dark shift.
It has been noted as well that the shadows softly blend in with the human skin instead of showing stable shapes. The position of where the shadows end also varies, some ending at the wrist while others reach almost to the shoulder.

Fangs

Similar to claws they show a great variety and correlation to body structure. Teeth present themselves as white, not being covered in shadows. Any oral structures besides the fangs are unchanged in shape and color.

Dark Shift

Defined as the ability to cover up whole bodies in shadows. Increase of resistance, speed and strength as well as particularities of the nature the darkness is copying (stealth, underwater breathing, extreme flexibility, etc…).

The texture of the shadow enveloping varies depending on nature. Commonly found textures were. Some of the textures could be fur, scales, rock-like roughness, metal, as well as plant textures.

Any human clothing is also covered in shadows and therefore Dark Shifts always present themselves as nature made them develop.


Physiological Details



Consumption

Consumption of human food and drinks aren’t as pleasurable anymore. Smokers define the taste of the food they used to consume as human as ashy or tasteless. Confirmation that energy comes from their Collections (Life Force), making eating pointless.

Some show attachment to food because of memories, anxiety or habit. In these cases, foods can be more or less tasted. This is followed by Nausea and Vomiting.

Water Based Drinks→ Coffee, Tea and Flavoured Waters are consumed without problems.

Dernee Alcohol → Infused with Life Force from either dead bodies or collections (ownerless). Preferred drinks.

Common Alcohol, Drugs and Medication have no longer effect.


Resistance

Natural stronger resistance and faster healing processes have been calculated. Common weapon damage are not deadly unless in cases of decapitation, combustion, complete damage of all inner organs and overkill.

Pain Tolerance increased. When subjected to high amount of pain Smokers do not pass out like a normal human would. Adaptation required.


Psychological Traits and Habits



Instinct

The development of three main instincts have been observed:

Self-defense → Reflex to pull fangs and claws out present when threatened. Lack of adaptation in newly shifted Smokers caused bleeding lips and accidental stabbings.

Intimidation → Varies in degree to the narcissism that the subject presents. Used in territorial and/or possessive confrontations in which they aim to not involve violence

Hunting/Preying → Hunter-like and predatory behavior increase. Common to silently approach people even without intention to. Playful hunting behavior without killing has been observed as well.


Sadism

The Sadism in a Smoker is directly related to their want to increase their collection. Smokers do enjoy killing, but it is often because it comes will a fulfilling moment. Collectables are extremely valuable and vital for Smokers so to acquire what they need to survive they come to enjoy it. It’s like people come to enjoy eating because it keeps them sustained.

Very often it has been noticed that Sadism is connected to feelings of power, pride, pleasure, vengeance and even passion. Vain self-centered feelings which makes us conclude that the Sadism is often connected to some type of personal gain which is not exclusive to pleasure toward violence.



Abilities



Active Ability IV - Extreme Attack

Correlation to size collection observed. Use of Attack without exceptions presents Exhaustion. Individuals showed resistance in casually using this ability, which lead it to be categorized as last resort option.

3 Kills → Micro Collection. Can be used in canon once a month.

4-6 Kills → Small Collection. Can be used in canon once every 2 weeks.

7-10 Kills → Medium Collection. Can be used in canon once a week.

11+ Kills → Big Collection. Can be used in canon once every 3 days. (not advised to be used in this frequency though)

Looking deeper into the connection between Smoker and their collection, it has been noticed that the ones with a Medium collection can very easily have the upper hand with other Smokers while, the ones with big collections tend to even cause harm to other further developed Shadow Beings. In this case it shows that the size of collection affects directly the strength and effectiveness of the subject as well as their abilities.

DRE

Any Smoker appears to be able to call a Death Roll Event on humans. They follow the same rules applied as any mod Smoker. This means that upon turning every Smoker needs a sheet to distribute and check their Affection Points.

Alliances



It appears that newly formed Smokers are quick to find alliances with stronger beings such as Purebreeds and Shadows do to their need to further develop themselves. While very useful to have such loyalty, it is an unstable relationship since the Smoker is not obligatory morally tied to the stronger creatures, which makes them easy to turn against you at unexpected moments.

Take Smokers under your wing with that in mind.
